THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Application is easy with Chilli Adventures. And we’ll be here to guide you every step of the way.
 Step 1: get info!
Once you have created a profile or started your application, one of the Chilli crew will contact you to run through the start of the process and invite you along to an information session. We strongly urge you to attend one of these sessions so that you have a true picture of what camp is all about.
Step 2: Application, Deposit & Interview
When you have made the decision to go to camp you need to complete your online application up to and including the Statement and Photo sections. List as many skills as you can as well as add any awards that you have achieved as this will enhance your application. Don’t be modest - you want to make sure you present yourself in the best possible light (without telling fibs!)
When you are ready for an interview you need to pay your R950 Application Deposit. Ensure you use your full name as a reference on the deposit. NO cash deposits as this will incur a 2% surcharge. EFTs are best. See below for bank details:

Chilli Adventures will call you to set up your interview once we have received your application deposit. Your interview will either be done at one of Chilli Adventures road show events, with a Chilli national team member (who went to camp last year), or at the Chilli Offices. Make sure you’ve read, signed and returned your program agreement to Chilli ahead of your interview as this outlines all terms and conditions.
Step 3: Acceptance, Police Clearance Certificate & Program Fees
Once interviewed, Chilli Adventures will let you know within 5 days whether you have been accepted onto the program. You can now start to get ready for the Summer of your Life!
First you need to pop along to your local police station to sort out your Criminal Background Check. You also need to pay your Program Fee of R1900 along with your insurance payment (Chilli will send you a break down of your insurance options). You may select insurance coverage for up to 2 years.
At this point you would also notify Chilli Adventures if you wished to make use of the Flight Assistance Option. This will allow Chilli to advance $800 from your camp salary, toward the cost of your flight.
Step 4: Perfect your Application!
The following documents need to be uploaded to your online application ASAP: 3 References, copy of your passport, Completed Medical Form, Police Clearance Certificate. Also upload any certificates or vocational qualifications. Chilli Adventures will assess when your application and supporting documents are sufficiently complete to be viewed by summer camps in the US. Once we are happy that it is ready for submission, it will be sent to the US Placement team so that they can start the process of finding the PERFECT Summer Camp for you. The sooner your application looks GREAT & all paperwork is submitted - the sooner you can be placed! Remember that you can always add to your application if you gain additional experience, skills or qualifications. Be aware that camp directors may contact you during this time to have a chat about your application and suitability for their camp. Be sure to check your email daily and keep your phone close at hand!
Step 5: Visa Application Questionnaire
Once your application is complete Chilli Adventures will forward you the Visa Application Questionnaire. YOU MUST complete the questionnaire IN FULL and submit it back to Chilli Adventures ASAP. Chilli will complete your visa paperwork and advise you on supporting documents that need to be submitted. We will also book your appointment and advise you of this date.
Step 6: Camp Placement & Visa Appointment
As soon as Chilli Adventures are notified that you are placed at a Summer Camp, we will contact you with these details.
Step 7: Book your Flight & Get your Visa Granted
Once you have your camp start date, its time to book your flight! Chilli Adventures will contact you with a couple of travel itinerary options. Please ensure that your flight is booked ASAP. If you have selected the Flight assistance option, Chilli Adventures will contact you with regard to your flight once your visa has been granted.
Step 8: PRE-DEPARTURE PREP DAYS!
Chilli Adventures hold Pre-Departure Prep Days around South Africa in April. These are mandatory meetings so you MUST ATTEND! Your Prep Day will give you lots of valuable information on: what to pack for camp, what documents to ensure you have, how to claim your taxes back, how your insurance works (we'll also give you the policy at that time), the importance of your DS-2019, how to survive the adjustment of the first couple of days and so much more....
Step 9: FINAL CHECKOUT
Finally, the week prior to your departure for the USA you need to contact Chilli to CHECK OUT. We'll run through a couple of last minute reminders with you to make sure you’ve not forgotten anything - and wish you on your way to the Best Summer of Your Life!
